Trademark certificate extension

In Ukrainian and international law, the validity of a trademark is ten years from the date of application.

At the same time, the owner of the trademark may extend the validity of the Certificate every 10 years with a mandatory payment of state fees.

For interest, we compare the amount of the fee in Ukraine and in the EU countries.

In Ukraine, the state fee for the extension of the validity of a trademark certificate in one class is 12,000 UAH, or about 445 Euros, in addition for each subsequent class, 1,200 UAH, or about 45 Euros.

In the countries of the European Union, for example:

  • in Germany, the fee for renewing a certificate on TM to three classes is 750 Euros, and for each subsequent class - 260 Euros (for more information, see the official website of the German Patent and Trademark Office www.dpma.de),
  • in France - 250 Euros, for each subsequent class - 42 Euros (detailed information can be found on the official website of the French National Institute of Industrial Property www.inpi.fr ),
  • in Spain - 170 Euros, for each subsequent class - 114 Euros (detailed information can be found on the official website of the Spanish Patent Office www.oepm.es).

It is worth noting that before the price increase from 07/01/2019, in Ukraine it was possible to register TM and extend the validity of the certificate on TM 4 times cheaper, i.e. the renewal fee was about 115 Euros - less than in the EU compared countries.
